Skydance and Amy Hennig released the first proper Marvel 1943 trailer during the annual Epic Games Keynote address and announced an anticipated release date. The superhero game, which takes place during World War II in Nazi-occupied France, is expected to launch sometime in 2025, though Skydance didn’t announce intended platforms.

Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra follows four heroes in, well, 1943 whose stories intertwine as the game’s broader narrative unfolds – not willingly, at first. Much of the trailer focuses on conflict between Black Panther and Captain America, though what they’re after and why it matters is still a mystery for later.

Here’s the official description of what’s going on:

“In the chaos of war, worlds collide. Captain America and Azzuri, the Black Panther of the 1940s, must overcome their differences and form an uneasy alliance to confront their common enemy. Fighting alongside Gabriel Jones of the Howling Commandos, and Nanali, a Wakandan spy embedded in Occupied Paris, they must join forces to stop a sinister plot that threatens to turn the havoc of World War II into the ultimate rise of Hydra.”

The WWII part of the first trailer has big Medal of Honor vibes, with plenty of sneaking and well-timed Nazi punching. The war and the time period in general have potential for some meaningful storytelling that touches on sensitive topics, though whether Marvel 1943 does anything with it beyond historical set dressing, we’ll just have to wait and see.
