Braves make flurry of roster moves ahead of Red Sox series
Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The Braves finally won a series in the second half of the season thanks to Ozzie Albies‘ heroics in the 8th inning, which triggered a flurry of roster moves.

The primary addition is Yonny Chirinos, a reliever from the Rays that was DFA’d, but that was only the beginning. The Braves also DFA’d Seth Elledge and optioned Michael Soroka to Gwinnett.

I’m not sure what this means for the Braves starters next week. Soroka hasn’t been outstanding, but he’s looked much better in his second stint with the team, and I would expect him to start next week. However, it is possible Chirinos takes his spot in the rotation. He’s served as an opener and started four games for the Rays this season.

The Braves also re-signed Danny Young to a minor-league pact.

Beyond that, the Braves announced rehabilitation assignments for Max Fried and A.J. Minter. Fried will start on Wednesday, which will likely be his last appearance on the farm before he returns to the Braves. Minter’s rehab assignment is scheduled to begin on Tuesday.

With so many guys out, expect this to be the norm over the next couple of weeks. The Braves have a lot of decisions to make with the trade deadline looming, so this chaos is only just beginning.
