We said earlier this week that there could be some players trickling into the transfer portal late and that happened on Thursday in the case of Nebraska football player Ru’Quan Buckley

Buckley, a former three-star signee from Michigan was part of the 2021 recruiting class but never really found his footing. He played both offensive and defensive line during his time with Nebraska. But he never really found a home.

Buckley is the fourth player to enter the transfer portal this week for Nebraska football. However, only Chief Borders played significant snaps for the Huskers last season. Buckley, a 6-foot-5 295-pound defensive line, did see action in eight games in 2023 with one tackle and one quarterback pressure.

In terms of the timing, players had to enter by April 30th, but it can take a couple of days. It’s also possible that this isn’t the last departure. Players had an extra day to enter if they were a graduate, plus, if players have their scholarship pulled, it also allows them to enter the transfer portal.

As far as Buckley, it seems like a guy looking for more playing time and it’s hard to blame him. He was recruited by Scott Frost and while there were some promising moments, he never turned into a two-deep guy. That doesn’t mean he can’t elsewhere — it just wasn’t going to be with Nebraska football.

I wish him the best of luck. Hopefully, he finds a better situation but for Nebraska football, it does open another scholarship which isn’t bad.
